Only a year into his career as an outlaw, Shindle received a lethal wound during a heated shootout. He was dragged to a doctor by a few friends that survived the ordeal and was able to recover from the brink of death. He became so terrified of the idea of being shot, that he made himself a promise never to be shot again. To ensure this, he spent the next twenty-five years mastering a special technique that allowed him to dodge bullets! After putting this technique to use, Shindle's fame as one of the most dangerous outlaws grew. He formed a group of bandits known as "The Iron Steeds" and used his technique to lead them to victory in nearly every crime they committed. Victory became so simple in fact that Shindle began to wonder how his adversaries could even find the overconfidence to oppose a man who could dodge all their attacks. In his facination though, he never took the time to realize that he himself was guilty of that same overconfidence.
